What is Knee Arthroscopy?

Knee arthroscopy is better known as knee surgery. Through this surgical procedure we are better able to diagnose your knee joint problems. Following this diagnosis we have the tools to treat your knee pain. The procedure of knee arthroscopy involves a minimally invasive surgical procedure. First we make a tiny incision into your knee. Using a microscopic camera called an arthroscope we are able to look inside your knee joint. We use digital imagery to view the knee joint on a screen as we determine what is causing your knee joint issues.

What are Common Injuries That Results in Knee Arthroscopy?

If you are currently suffering from a torn meniscus, torn ligaments, knee bone fractures, swollen synovium, or a Baker’s cyst, you can benefit from a knee arthroscopy. Other issues that may warrant the use of knee arthroscopy include arthritis, swelling, or inflammation of the knee joint. These conditions can be better diagnosed through the use of knee arthroscopy. You may require additional knee surgery in the future depending on our findings during your knee arthroscopy session. Our team of reputable doctors and surgeons here at the S.M.A.R.T. Spine Institute and Surgery Center will use arthroscopic knee surgery to get a better look at the main cause of your knee joint pain. This will ensure that we can make an accurate diagnose for your ongoing knee joint treatment.

How is the Arthroscopy Surgery Performed?

The arthroscopy surgery involves an anesthetic prior to your surgery. As a result you will likely be told not to eat or drink for a certain period before you come in for knee surgery. Depending on your knee pain and overall health condition you may have either a local anesthesia or a general anesthesia. The latter form puts you to sleep. If you go with a local anesthesia you will be awake and may be able to watch your knee surgery on a TV monitor. Here at the S.M.A.R.T. Spine Institute and Surgery Center we have a team of orthopedic surgeons that have many years of experience performing knee arthroscopy. If you have any questions regarding this procedure we are more than happy to answer them. Our goal is for you to be completely comfortable and knowledgeable about knee arthroscopy as a diagnostic tool for your knee pain.
