Whiplash Treatment with our Arcadia Chiropractor
Chances are you know someone who's had whiplash before; it's a common injury related to auto accidents, thousands of which happen every day in this country. If you or a loved one has been in an auto accident, had a slip and fall at work, or experienced any other sort of traumatic accident, consider calling our Arcadia chiropractors here at the S.M.A.R.T Spine Institute. Our staff utilizes best-practice techniques guided by decades of experience to help people find natural relief fast.
How Whiplash Occurs
The name is pretty descriptive of this condition. Imagine a whip moving: it snaps in a rapid bend/flex pattern. This same concept applies to the human neck and head when the body is involved in some sort of sudden change of direction or blow (common during even mild fender benders or a contact sport, for instance). Forward motion of the head continues (thanks to inertia) and the neck will effectively snap back and forth.
Given this mechanism of injury, it's easy to imagine how this can lead to strain, tissue damage, and inflammation in the connective tissues within the neck, shoulders, and upper back—in other words, whiplash syndrome.
Signs & Symptoms of Whiplash
Whiplash symptoms may show up right away, or they may take days or even weeks or months to pop up (exactly why we advise consulting with an Arcadia chiropractor ASAP following an auto accident, even if you think you feel fine!). Here are a few things to look out for that may suggest whiplash syndrome:
- Neck stiffness, pain, and tenderness
- Headaches and ringing in the ears
- Shoulder pain and stiffness
- Muscle and joint pain in the upper back
- Difficulty concentrating and sleeping
